Mangaluru: The work on upgrading the RTO Driving Test Yard at Vamanjoor which had started two years back has fallen into limbo due to problem with the tender process and other problems. In this backdrop, in order to solve the problem, the RTO has done preparation to send a request to the deputy commissioner.

Rs 76 lakh released

The RTO Driving Test Yard at Vamanjoor requires a proper building, washroom and other basic facilities. In order to fill this lack, the government had released Rs 76 lakh for the upgrading of the RTO Driving Test Yard at Vamanjoor. Using the grant, a plan was drawn to construct a building, proper seating facility for visitors, washroom and compound wall around the centre. In two years, work has been done on the building and washrooms. But the work on the installation of interlocks, seating facility and the construction of the compound wall around the centre has not yet been started.

Term is over, but work remains to begin

The tender for the work has been taken up by the Nirmiti Kendra, and when the RTO questions them on why the work has stopped halfway, they keep giving the same reason of tender process and problem with the release of funds because of which the work has remained halfway. They also say that the work will begin in a few days.

But till now, no work has been done. The people who visit the driving test yard have given complaints to the RTO on the disorderly state of the yard due to which the RTO is in a fix. The time limit given to complete the work has crossed itself. But the Nirmiti Kendra is only giving various excuses and not starting any work, inform RTO officials.

Fight between the government and Nirmiti Kendra: RTO in trouble

In the backdrop of the confusion between the government and the Nirmiti Kendra, the RTO has fallen into trouble. The situation of the applicants is bad as they have to face much difficulty to get permission from the RTO Driving Test Yard here. In the backdrop of the gravel-grate-loose soil environment here, first timers, under the fear of the exam and the condition of the test track more-than-naught stumble. Excluding this, there is a glaring lack of basic facilities here, which is blamed on the RTO by the yards visitors. But, even though the RTO knows of the problem, it is stuck in a situation where it cannot solve it.
