Veteran theater actress Mamata Gudura passes away at 75

Renowned Kannada Rajyotsava Award winner and veteran theater and film artist Mamata Gudura (Itagi) breathed her last early on Thursday morning at the age of 75.

The talented artist had been battling a brain hemorrhage for several months and passed away at her residence in Gudura (S.C) village.

Mamata had more than five thousand plays to her credit, showcasing her dedication and passion for the craft. In addition to her theater career, she left a mark in the world of cinema, having appeared in 25 movies, including notable titles like “Ganeshana Maduve,” “Shiva Shankar,” “Manege Banda Mahalakshmi,” and “Avala Neralu.” She had the privilege of sharing the screen with some of the finest actors in Kannada cinema, including legendary figures like Ambareesh and Vajramuni.

Notably, she also performed with renowned theater groups such as BR Arishinagodi, PB Dhuttaragi drama company, Chindodi drama company, and Hucheshwar drama company, among others.

Mamata’s outstanding portrayal of Sangavva in the drama “Seere Angadi Sangavva” by Banashankari’s BSR Drama Company garnered immense appreciation. With her remarkable performance as the shopkeeper Sangavva, she skillfully delivered impactful dialogues, leaving a lasting impression on the audience.

In 2017, the Karnataka State Government recognized Mamata’s exceptional contributions to the arts by bestowing her the prestigious Karnataka Rajyotsava Award.

According to sources, the final rites of veteran artist Mamata Gudura will be conducted in accordance with Muslim traditions at Gudura village at 4 pm on Thursday.
