Veteran writer, AIR administrator Dr Jyotsna Kamat no more

Honnavar: Writer, scholar, researcher, historian and former director of All India Radio  Dr. Jyotsna Krishnanand Kamat passed away on Wednesday at her residence in Bengaluru. She was 85.

A multifaceted personality, Dr. Kamat has more than 500 articles, research papers, and invited lectures to her credit. According to Kamat.com, her published works span three languages and cover such topics as history, folklore, and humor.

Dr Jyotsna Kamat was born to (late) Ganesh Burde and (late) Sharadabai Burde in 1937. She married (late) Dr. Krishnanand L. Kamat in 1966. They have a son Vikas Kamat, who is now settled in the USA.

For her exceptional work and efforts, Dr Kamat was the recipient of several awards. Karnataka Literary Academy Award 1988
(for the book Karnatakada Shikshana Parampare), Rajyotsava Award 1991 (for extraordinary contribution to Kannada language and literature through electronic media), Best Kannada Woman Writer of 1995-96 and the K. Shamarao scholarship award,
A.S. Krishna Rao memorial grant and scholarship by Mumbai Karnataka Foundation (1998), Rev. Kittel Award for Research in Kannada Literature (2001), Lifetime Achievement Award, Kanara Saraswat (2021) are a few among them.

Dr. Kamat established the Kamat Memorial Foundation in memory of her late husband, K.L.Kamat.
