Vidyagama scheme to restart in govt schools from Jan 1

Bengaluru: The Vidyagama scheme is set to restart from January 1, 2021, for government schools students.

Classes will be held with added safety measures with students being divided into further smaller groups for the classes.

Vidyagama scheme is a continuous learning programme which involved teachers taking classes in community spaces for rural students who do not have access to online or televised classes.

The government withdrew the scheme after reports of students and teachers contracting COVID-19 due to the classes.

Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, S Suresh Kumar, confirmed that students with the approval of their parents can attend the Vidyagama sessions.

Kumar also said that the sessions will be held in phases with of 45 minutes each in the morning and afternoon.

The guidelines released by the State government states that students studying in class 10 will have the sessions in the first shift every day while for students of classes 8 and 9 it would be on alternate days from 2 pm to 4:30 pm.

Classes will be on alternate days for classes 1-5.
