Visually impaired man gets Doctorate in Kannada Literature

Bengaluru: 37-year-old visually impaired Nagashetty wins a doctorate in Kannada. He was awarded Doctor of Philosophy (Faculty of Arts- Kannada) for his research on ‘Kuvempu Kavyagalli Antherdrusti’ from Bangalore University during the 53rd convocation on Thursday.

Nagashetty was born in Shalebeeranahalli near Chincoli Town and is currently a Kannada teacher in a Government PU college in JC Nagar. Nagashetty was born visually impaired. He completed his schooling from Gulbarga Blind School and completed his under-graduation in Gadag by staying at Puttaraj Gawai ashrama to complete the course. He joined Adichunchanagiri College and completed his BA and PG courses. Nagashetty used to study for exams with the help of classmates.                                        

Many times books were not available in Braille version so Nagashetty used to ask people to read out loud and listened to the audio scripts. After facing many challenges he attributed his accomplishments to Dr. Siddalingaiah who encouraged him to persuade PhD.

An enthusiastic student of Kannada literature, Nagashetty said safeguarding Kannada language was his main concern. Nagashetty said that he would continue teaching Kannada and encourage children to learn Kannada language.
