With delay in the onset of monsoon, several parts in Dakshina Kannada is facing scarcity of water and the administration has already resorted to water rationing.
Speaking on the matter, the DC said that in the past the district experienced normal rainfall in the month of June. “As the monsoon is delayed this year, the district is facing problem of drinking water. The level of water in Thumbe dam has gone down and stands at 1.86m presently. Hence we have released water from AMR dam and the water will be filled upto 4m at Thumbe dam by today evening,” he said.
The water problem escalated in the last two days as the administration undertook pipeline and motor repair works. “Owing to the repair works, there was no water supply for two days. A few educational institutions faced problems due to this but they have to make arrangements for water through their private bore wells. District administration will also provide assistance in this regard. We will see that there is no water problem in any corner of the district,” he said further adding that water is being supplied through tankers within the corporation limits.
