Water Storage in Harangi Reservoir Declines to 3.9 TMC for First Time in 30 Years

Somwarpet: Amid weak rainfall activities in Mysuru, Kodagu region, water storage level has recorded a steep decline in Harangi reservoir for the first time in the last 3 decades, according to the data obtained during second week of July, 2017. Decline in water storage is expected to adversely impact farming activities in Kodagu and some parts of Hassan district.

The reservoir has capacity to store 8.5 TMC water, however at present it has water storage of 3.9 TMC against 5.99 TMC and 6.67 TMC recorded during July, 2016 and 2015 respectively.  Farm land spread on an area of 1.35 lakh in Arakalagudu, Hassan, Periyapatna, Somwarpet, Hunsur and KR Nagar taluks have depend upon Harangi reservoir for irrigation.
