Who is Prabhakar Raghavan, the new head of Google Search?

Google has appointed Prabhakar Raghavan as the head of Search and Assistant. He will be taking over the position from Ben Gomes who is shifting to a new role in the organisation

Raghavan joined Google in 2012 and  was appointed the head of the tech giant’s advertising and commerce business in 2018.

This role included supervision of search, display and video advertising, analytics, shopping, payments, and travel segments.

Prabhakar Raghavan holds a Bachelor of Technology from the Indian Institute of Technology Madras and a Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science

Raghavan is a member of the National Academy of Engineering; a Fellow of the ACM and IEEE and was a Consulting Professor of Computer Science at Stanford University. In 2009, he was awarded a Laurea honoris causa from the University of Bologna.

Also, from 2003 to 2009, Raghavan was the editor-in-Chief of Journal of the ACM. Before joining google, he worked at Yahoo Labs and IBM Research, after which he became senior vice president and chief technology officer at enterprise search vendor Verity.

In the new role Raghavan will also have the advertising and commerce business come under him
