Women entry into Sabarimala: Protest and strike along the coast

Kasaragod: In the backdrop of the historic entry of two women devotees at the Lord Ayyappa shrine in Sabarimala on Wednesday Jan 2nd has resulted in the death of a man protesting their entry, the temple shutting down for “purification” ritual post their entry and a widespread protest throughout the district of Kasaragod.

Just as the news of the entry was getting reported, protest march and blocking of the national highway was already in motion. The Sabarimala Action Committee has called for a strike on Jan 3rd from 6 am in the morning to 6 pm in the evening. Sangh Parivar and 64 other associations have pledged support for the strike.

Mangaluru: The Ayyappa Devotees Group has condemned the historic entry of two women devotees at the Lord Ayyappa shrine in Sabarimala. In opposition to this, support will be given to the strike call given by the Sabarimala Kshetra Conservation Committee on Jan 3rd, said Guruswami Vishwanath Kayarpalke at a press conference. The pro Hindutva group Hindu Yuva Sene Central Committee and Rama Sene have condemned the historic incident.

Massive protest today

Udupi: A protest will be held in front of martyred soldiers memorial at Bhujanga park in Ajjarakadu in response to the district Sabarimala Kshetra Conservation committee’ call for strike on Jan 3rd.
