Work on 2nd platform at Kabaka-Puttur railway station

Puttur: As part of the development work taken at Kabaka-Puttur Railway Station to make it an Adarsha (model) railway station, development work of the second platform is being conducted. The work was sanctioned after a continuous fight by many who fought to achieve facilities at the railway station. MP Nalin Kumar’s effort also led to sanction of the grant. There is a rule that a model railway station must have two platforms. If this work is completed then it will be possible for two trains to stop simultaneously at Kabaka-Puttur railway station. Rs 1.75 crore has been sanctioned for the work form the union government. Puttur Railway Travellers Association, Kukke Subrahmanya-Mangaluru Railway Users Association and other fighting for facilities at railway station have been continuously pressing for the development of the 2nd platform here. The grant was sanctioned by the union railway minister after the local MP requested for the same. 700 meters long The second platform is being developed equiv-distant to the first platform for a length of 700mt. mud is being brought in lorries and dumped here for the work. Along with the installation of electricity cables, the platform is being developed through concretization and installation of interlocks. The 2nd platform will be of equal height with the first platform. Completion by year end A time period of 6 months has been given to complete the development work of the second platform at Kabaka-Puttur railway station as part of becoming a model railway station. Since work cannot be conducted during the rainy season, the work will be continued post the monsoon. The work will be completed by the year end, inform railway department officials. Development work “Various development works have been conducted at the total cost of Rs 2 crore with the identification of Kabaka-Puttur railway station as a model railway station by the union government. Currently, second platform here is undergoing development and is expected to be completed soon,” said Sanjeeva Matandoor, MLA, Puttur
