On this occasion Dr Sahana Shetty, Professor and Head Department of Endocrinology said Diabetes is increasing at an alarming rate with 11% prevalence of diabetes in India. Diabetes is the main risk factor for heart diseases, kidney failure, foot ulcers and vision loss in adults. It also affects mental health and quality of life. Hence there is a need for a holistic approach to diabetes care which not only addresses physical health but also mental well-being. Hence, the theme of world diabetes day 2024 is “Diabetes and wellbeing “highlight the importance of a holistic approach to diabetes care encompassing physical health, mental, and societal well-being. There is also a call for Breaking Barriers and Bridging Gaps in the fight against diabetes.
Diabetes can be prevented to a great extent by adopting a healthy lifestyle in terms of healthy eating practices and physical activity. Physical activities like exercises both aerobic and resistance exercises, walking, jogging, cycling, swimming, yoga, Zumba etc not only improves physical health but also improves our emotional well-being. To emphasize the importance of physical activity both in the prevention and management of diabetes, we have arranged this Zumba session at the beautiful sea beach.

Both leaders reiterated the hospital’s commitment to raising awareness about diabetes and promoting preventive measures through community engagement. “Events like this Zumba session are vital in educating the public about diabetes prevention and encouraging people to incorporate physical activity into their daily routines. It’s a step toward a healthier, diabetes-free future.”
