Speaking to Udayavani Suresh said, “As railway area near Dudhsagar falls was highly unsafe, the public was not allowed to visit Dudhsagar falls but from tomorrow onwards people will be allowed to walk on the tracks to have a glimpse at the scenic falls. Also in order to boost tourism, trains travelling through this route will now stop at Dudhsagar Railway station.”
“This decision was made to make Dudhsagar accessible as a tourist destination,” he added.
It may be recalled that in 2015, SW Railways has declared this as dangerous and prohibited tourists from walking on the track. The authorities had also warned that trekking along railway track or trespassing on railway area and endangering the safety of passengers was an offence and violators would be prosecuted under Sections 147, 151, 152 and 153 of Indian Railways Act, 1989.
