Ex IAS Officer led Team Starts Investigation into Parappana Agrahara Prison Row

Bengaluru: An investigation team led by former IAS officer Vinaykumar has started investigation into recent Parappana Agrahara Central Prison row on Saturday. The team will hold enquiry in Parappana Agrahara jail and its premises and is expected to question concerned officials on recent issues emerged inconnection with the alleged irregularities in the prison.

According to the instruction by the state government, the investigation team will hand over its preliminary investigation report to the home department in a week and later it is scheduled to submit a detailed report to the state government within a time span of 30 days.

Parappana Agrahara attracted controversy last week after Prisons DIG D Roopa filed two reports before the state government and stated before the media that jail authorities including Prisons DGP violated law to provide special privileges to some influential prisoners including AIADMK (Amma Group) General Secretary VK Sasikala.

According to two reports submitted to Karnataka government by DIG Roopa, jail authorities, prisoners and others violated law which has resulted in irregularities Agrahara prison.

Roopa also alleged that Prisons DGP obtained a sum of Rs 2 crore to provide special privileges to VK Sasikala. Following the report and statement to media by Roopa, controversy erupted in police department and government level. In the wake of unexpected developments, Karnataka Chief Minister ordered for a high level enquiry into the row last week.
