Satish Kumar, a resident of Jayanagar received an SMS from an unsuspecting mobile number on November 28. The message stated that his bill payment was pending and that if not paid tonight, his electricity supply will be disconnected.

He then called the number mentioned in the SMS and a person, claiming to be an employee of Bangalore Electricity Supply Company Limited (BESCOM) told Satish that his electricity bill payment was pending and asked him to pay it online to avoid a power cut. Allegedly, he then made him download an app on his phone.

Soon after he downloaded the app, the accused collected all his bank details and withdrew Rs. 50,000 from his account.

Following this, Satish filed a complaint at the nearby police station.
