Final Hearing on Cauvery Water Issue to Start from July 11: Supreme Court

Bengaluru/New Delhi: Supreme court will start its final hearing from July 11, 2017 on the judgement passed by Cauvery tribunal on Cauvery water issue.  The supreme court will hear the arguments of all the stakeholders continuously for 15 days from July 11 and till then Karnataka state should release 2000 cusec water on daily basis to Tamil Nadu, the apex court said in an order on Tuesday.

Justice Deepak Misra headed three member supreme court bench has accepted the petition submitted by Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu states questioning the judgement passed by Cauvery Tribunal in 2007. According to the order passed in 2017, out of total available 740 TMC Cauvery water, Karnataka can utilise 270 TMC followed by Tamil Nadu 419 TMC, Kerala 30 TMC and Pondicherry 7 TMC. Following the judgement passed by the tribunal, the three states moved to supreme court stating that the order was passed without making any survey on the availability of water and without considering the practical facts.
