Fire breaks out near old HAL Airport in B'luru, no casualties reported

Bengaluru: A fire broke out in the foundry department near the old HAL airport on Wednesday, April 29 after a magnesium scrap stockpile caught fire.

The incident comes a day after all divisions of the company were reopened following a request from the Ministry of Home Affairs to the State government.

Speaking with this regard Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Whitefield “As many as eight fire tenders were pressed into service to douse the fire and the entire area has been cordoned off. No one was reported injured in the incident.”

Meanwhile, HAL spokesperson clarified that the stockpile of magnesium which had been lying at the scrapyard of the Division ignited for unknown reasons.

Although HAL described the fire as being under control, the officer clarified that there were challenges to extinguishing the flames as magnesium cannot be doused by water.
