First time voting rights for the sexual minorities

Mangaluru: This is the first time the Indian Election Commission has given permission in the state to provide voting rights to the sexual minorities. Accordingly, the persons belonging to the sexual minority in Mangaluru have registered themselves into the voters list including 8 persons from Mangaluru city north constituency, 56 from Mangaluru city south constituency, 13 from Mangaluru constituency and thus a total of 77 persons have registered themselves.

39 persons will vote in south constituency

Under the system of democracy, not a single election has given the right to vote for the sexual minority. Thus they were shunted from their right and elections. But, in the current society, a lot of improvement has taken place towards the sexual minority. They are now getting involved in the education and employment arena. Now they have finally being included into the election system.

Likewise, the election commission has provided opportunity for the sexual minorities to vote in the 2018 Karnataka legislative assembly elections. They will be casting their first vote today. 39 persons belonging to the sexual minority in Mangaluru city south constituency will cast their first vote today at 10:15am in the morning at Milagres School.
