Mangaluru: The 'Samanya Manaska Minugarara Vedike' here has demanded that Kaup MLA Lalaji Mendon being the only representative in the ruling party of the fishermen's' community be made part of the State's Cabinet.
Speaking at a news conference on Friday, Sharath Guddekopla, fishermen's' leader said that Lalaji Mendon is a three-time legislator with a spotless record, hence, he must get a ministerial berth.
Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa must give proper representation to the fishermen's community whose population is more than 80 lakh in the State, he added.
Many of the demands of fishermen have not been met yet. Lalaji Mendon should be a minister only then will we receive responses to our demands. We had earlier demanded to the government to make Lalaji Mendon a minister, but our appeal was not met. At least this time, he should be made a minister, Guddekopla sadi.
At a news conference, senior community leaders Dayanath Kotian, Gangadhar Hosabettu, Devadas Boluru and Rajeev Kanchan were present.
