Mangaluru/Malpe: In a maritime accident involving a collision between a ship and a fishing boat took place on March 29
th, the fishing boat suffered serious damage while the 9 fishermen aboard the vessel survived a close brush with death.
On the night of March 9
th, a Singapore based ship MV Chinaya Nari, collided with the fishing boat ‘Jalapadmavati’ at the distance of 20 nautical miles from the New Mangalore Port. The ship was on its route from Singapore to Columbia The coast guard and Mangaluru police have conducted investigation in connection to the incident.
Fishermen warned
In order to prevent such accident on high seas, all fishing boats must install Automatic Identification System and have navigation lights on either sides of the boat. The fishermen must take care not to take their across the paths frequented by ships. All fishing boats must have AIS transponder installed in them. During emergency situation, they can call the Coastal Security Police (CSP) control room at 1093, informed CSP SP.
