Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar voiced strong opposition to former Chief Minister Bommai’s advice on the Cauvery water issue, asserting that it could lead to a legal entanglement in the Supreme Court. Responding to Bommai’s advice of pursuing a legal struggle without releasing the water, Shivakumar pointed out the importance of considering the Supreme Court’s stance. He urged Bommai to prioritize the state’s interests over political considerations and called for collective pressure on the Prime Minister to intervene.

Shivakumar also disclosed his intention to travel to New Delhi soon, where he plans to meet with Members of Parliament and appeal for the central government’s intervention. He echoed the sentiment that a resolution outside of court proceedings, as suggested by HD Deve Gowda, is a viable path forward.

In reference to Bommai’s prior role as the Irrigation Minister, Shivakumar suggested seeking guidance from the legal experts appointed during his tenure. He emphasized the significance of receiving sound advice in navigating this complex water dispute.

Meanwhile, former Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy has accused the state government of neglecting the interests of farmers in the ongoing Cauvery water issue. Speaking at a press conference held at his Bidadi farmhouse, Kumaraswamy emphasized that the government failed to communicate crucial information to the Cauvery Water Management Board (CWMA).

The Cauvery Water Management Board has recently ordered the release of 5 thousand cusecs of water. However, Kumaraswamy expressed his discontent, questioning the feasibility of this decision. He alleged that CWMA officials made this directive from the comfort of air-conditioned rooms, without considering the actual on-ground situation.
