Forest dept to grow fruit-bearing trees in Gerusoppa

Honnavar: Gerusoppa forests of Honnavar has the notoriety of being the home for the Long-tailed Macaque. In any case, these Macaque are presently lessening in numbers and the department has opened its eyes to the circumstance and has decided to grow organic fruit bearing trees.

These modest species, endemic toward the Western Ghats have contributed bigly for tourism of the locale. Gram Aranya Samitis have been doing their bit in securing these species and now they have chosen to plant more than one lakh fruit bearing saplings to generate food for the Long-tailed Macaque or ‘Singalika’. 

It is said that there in regards to 3,000 of these species living in India and more than 1,000 are found in Karnataka only. According to census in June, 730 since long-tailed Macaque were found in Honnavar.
