Srinivas, known for his socialist ideology, began his political career in Sagara of Shivamogga district. Throughout his career, he was associated with multiple political parties including the Congress, Janata Dal (Secular), KJP, and BJP. In recent years, he had distanced himself from active politics.

He was deeply influenced by leaders like Shantaveri Gopala Gowda and renowned writer Kuvempu.

During D. Devaraj Urs’s government, he held portfolios like Energy and Kannada and Culture departments among others. After facing marginalization within the Congress party, he joined the JD(S) and served as the Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council during that period.

Apart from his political contributions, Srinivas was also an accomplished poet. He published several poetry collections including “Kanugodu Mane”, “Chandra Neenobbane”, “Olasonne Horasonne”, and “Gubbacchiya Goodu”. He was widely respected for his eloquence and oratory skills.
