Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada district in-charge minister Kota Srinivas Poojary stated that all COVID-19 patients in the district will be treated for free in the hospitals of all medical colleges in the district.
Speaking after visiting the COVID-19 treatment facility at KMC Hospital here, Poojary stated that all COVID-19 patients including BPL families, APL families, migrant workers and those without a ration card, will be treated free of charge in the district's medical colleges. Patients can show their Aadhaar card at the hospital and get free treatment.
Provision of free treatment for COVID-19 patients at Wenlock hospital will be continued. In Dakshina Kannada district, the number of people recovering from the virus and being discharged hospitals is high. There is no need for the people of the district to panic. The government is committed to the health of the people, Poojary clarified.

MP Nalin Kumar Kateel instructed district authorities to file a case against hospitals that are charging more than the charges fixed by the government.
The public should be informed of the rates set by the government for COVID-19 treatment. If an emergency surgery has to be performed then it must be done without waiting for the COVID-19 test report, the MP added.
MLA Vedvyas Kamath stated that the public must be informed about the government rates for COVID-19 treatment.
Deputy Commissioner Sindhu B Rupesh District Health Officer Dr Ratnakar, Wenlock hospital superintendent Dr Srinivasan and officials from KMC Hospital were also present.
