He was 93 and is survived by two sons and two daughters, they said.
An agriculturist, he graduated from Maharaja’s College, Mysuru.
Inspired by Mahatma Gandhi, Gowda took part in the freedom struggle and was imprisoned for various periods between 1942 and 1947.

He was six-time MLA from Kirugavalu Assembly constituency between 1962 and 1989 and was elected to the ninth and 10th Lok Sabha.
Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa, in his condolence message, said Gowda imbibed the teachings of Gandhi and was in the forefront of the Cauvery river water sharing distrbution agitations.
In his condolence message, former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda said he was pained to learn about the death of Made Gowda, who was the president of the Cauvery Hitharakshana Samiti.
Many Ministers, MLAs and MPs also condoled Gowda’s demise.
