Acting on a tip-off that prohibited narcotic drugs were being illegally transported, sleuths launched an operation and intercepted a carriage vehicle in Visakhapatnam district yesterday and found 48 bags concealed under seven tonnes of wooden logs, DRI (Hyderabad Zonal Unit) Additional Director General M K Singh said in a release here.
“On opening the 48 bags, a total of 528 brown packets totally weighing 1,113 kg of cannabis (also known as ganja) were found,” he said. The contraband is suspected to have been procured from Vishakapatnam agency area and was to be sent to Zaheerabad town in Telangana.
The value of the narcotic drug, seized under the provisions of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, in the grey market would be around Rs 1.67 crore, the DRI official said adding two people found involved in the illegal transport of ganja, have been apprehended.
