There is no sorrow in situations where nothing can be done or saved. Lord Krishna reminds us: “Whatever is destined to happen will happen. Have you fulfilled your duty when the time was right?” The real concern is whether we perform our duties properly or not.
If one experiences regret for not fulfilling a duty and resolves to do better if given another chance, this is considered sattvic sorrow—a noble kind of grief that fosters self-evolution. God has given us a physical body as a tool for salvation, allowing us to perform duties and accumulate merit.
Krishna illustrates this with an example: If a son is a Deputy Commissioner and his father is a Sub-Inspector, the father must salute the son as per protocol. This is the duty assigned by their roles. Obeying divine commands is a virtue, while disregarding them is a sin.
