Belagavi: Owing to the increased cases of assault and rape of women in the country, senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad said that the slogan ‘Beti Padhao-Beti Maro’ was more suitable for the BJP government at the Centre, rather than ‘Beti Padhao-Beti Bachao’. He expressed concern over the rise in reports of girls being raped and the alleged involvement of certain BJP leaders in the cases. “BJP is a thich skinned party and it did not initiate action against leaders concerned despite an FIR being registered in such sensitive cases,” he said.

Mr. Azad said that people were disappointed with the government since it had not delivered on its promises with respect to black money, price rise and employment. He said that people had opened Jan Dhan bank accounts with hopes of getting Rs. 15 lakh, but had been disappointed when half the accounts were closed and others could not facilitate transaction. He also alleged that prices of commodities had reached a record high while unemployment was generated on the other side.
