Girl student raped through intimidation; charges proved

Mangaluru: The guilt of the youth accused of making friends with a college student, gaining her trust and then raping her has been proved by the 6^th district additional. The convict has been identified as Irshad (27), a resident of Kuminadka in Bantwal. The judgment and sentencing was carried on Tuesday.

Case details: An 18-year-old girl student studying at a college in the city was joined to a Whatsapp group by her friend. There was an individual in this group by the name Rafa and by gaining the student’s trust messaged her stating that they remain as friends. After sometime, the student game out of the Whatsapp group but continued maintaining contact with Rafa. However, they had not yet met each other.

During this time, on the student birthday, Rafa wishes her and informs her that she has sent her a bouquet of flowers through a relative. Accordingly, when the student goes to the college to collect her TC, an individual name Irshad meets her introducing himself as Rafa’s relative, givers her flower bouquet and leaves after wishing her happy birthday.

The student later joined a college in the city and used to travel daily. One day, Rafa messaged the student, “Tomorrow I am going to Mangaluru in the car. You can come with me,” she said. As per the message, the student waited and a car came by driven by Irshad. The student enquires on where her friend Rafa is to which he convinced her that Rafa will join along a little ahead en-route. It is being said that after the innocent girl entered the car, Irshad intimidated her, took her to Dharwad and raped her.

The case was registered at Bantwal police station.
