Govt will issue permit to 950 MSIL stores; license will not be issued to new wine shops: Gopalaiah

Bengaluru: Government will issue permit to 950 MSIL stores in the state. New wine shops will not be given license, said, Excise Minister, K Gopalaiah

Speaking to the reporters, Gopalaiah said, ” We recently held a meeting with retail liquor sellers and till now  Rs 19,433 crore excise duty has been collected. This year we aim to collect 22,700 crore. However, compared to last year this year we have collected additional Rs 800 crore”

“The department inspectors have been given 300 bikes. 70 Jeeps will be purchased, 4 weapons will be given to Excise offices. We will also put more effort in preventing the use of narcotic drugs,” he added

He further said, ” Since July 2020, Officials have held awareness meetings in 620 village councils. 19,406 cases of racketeering were registered”

“There is a demand to open a new store beside the existing wine shops. This will be discussed with the Chief Minister. No new license will be issued.  Permit is being issued as per CL 7 law,” he added
