Group attacks truck carrying cows from Gujarat

Uttara Kannada: A group of suspected right-wing activists allegedly attacked a truck transporting cows and beat up the four persons in it. The incident took place at Murudeshwara in Uttara Kannada district on Sunday night. Thirteen people have been arrested for assaulting the four people in the truck and stealing the cows contained in it.

Murudeshwara police informed that 28 cows were being transported in the truck from Gir in Gujarat to a diary in Thrissur in Kerala. The truck had two drivers and two cleaners and had departed from Gir on May 15. At around 8 pm on Sunday, the truck was passing through Murudehswara on the NH-66 where the gang hurled stones at it and assaulted the four persons. The drivers reportedly told the group that they had permission for transporting the cows, but the group refused to listen and did not bother to check the documents.

A few people in the group also hit some policemen who had come to the spot. Later, the group lowered the cows from the truck and took them away. The injured truck driver has registered a complaint based on which, the Murudeshwara police have arrested Janardhan, Nagaraj Nayak, Venkatesh, Kumar, Rama, Nagaraj Nayyar, Bhaskar, Mahesh, Venkatesh, Manjunath, Annappa, Shabhareesh and Girish. The accused have been booked for dacoity and assault. Out of the 28 cows stolen, 20 have been recovered. Police are still searching for other people involved in the attack.
