The strong room was opened in the presence of the district election observer Dr Madhuri Khode and the district election officer and district collector S. B. Shettennavar.
Counting of votes has started at Government Engineering College at Devagiri, on the outskirts of the city.
Elections were held on October 30 for the hangar assembly seat that was vacated by the untimely demise of C M Udasi. A high voter turnout of 84.76 percent was recorded on election day with 1.71,264 voters exercising their franchise out of 2,04,481 eligible voters.

Two rooms have been prepared for the counting of votes and a total of 14 tables have been arranged. The tables are restricted to 7 in a room to maintain social distancing norms. one micro observer, one counting supervisor, one counting assistant have been appointed for each table.
Covid negative report mandatory:
A covid negative report is mandatory for admission to the counting centre. The police are letting people in only after producing a covid negative report. A police cordon has been put in place in front of the counting centre.
Results likely by noon:
As per the directions of the Election Commission, the counting will be done following the covid guidelines. The official results are likely to come in the afternoon.
