The tanker was on its way to a petrol bunk at Magundi in Chikmagalur district from the petrol terminal at Hassan. While on his way the driver stopped the tanker at a shop at Kanati near Aalduru and pilfered and sold petrol from the tanker to the shop owner.
A car following the tanker noticed all this.
After the tanker reached the petrol bunk at Magundi, the car’s occupants informed the petrol bunk owner about the illegal sale made by the tanker driver.

Speaking to reporters, the sales manager informed that to prevent pilfering, e-lock technology was fitted on petrol tankers.
He added that the e-lock on petrol tankers can be unlocked only after it reaches the assigned GPS-equipped petrol bunk.
However, he said that it was noticed that after inserting a thread into the e-lock the petrol could be illegally removed.
The company will take necessary legal action against this act, he added.
