A Division Bench comprising acting Chief Justice H.G. Ramesh and Justice P.S. Dinesh Kumar issued the direction while hearing a public interest litigation petition challenging the feasibility of constructing a steel flyover at Shivananda junction while pointing out various shortcomings, including non-compliance to Indian Road Congress (IRC) standards.
BBMP’s defending its suit said the level of gradient and the 4.5-m vertical clearance provided for the proposed steel flyover were sufficient and safe for motorists. The gradients provided for steel flyover is less steep than what has been prescribed by the IRC.
BBMP asserted before the court that standards prescribed by IRC are not essential for the construction of flyovers and the standards specified could be altered depending on local requirements.
