HDK demands suspension of Compol, cops responsible for firing

Mangaluru: Former chief minister HD Kumaraswamy, on Sunday, sought to know on whose directions Mangaluru police imposed prohibitory orders, all of a sudden in Mangaluru city on December 18 night after having granted permission for the December 19 protest against CAA.

Addressing a press meet here after visiting the bereaved family of police firing victims, Kumaraswamy said that two innocent lives have been lost owing to the firing decision of the police and demanded suspension of city police commissioner and those who opened fire on the protesters within 24 hours. The JDS leader also asked the chief minister to sack home minister Bommai as he is unfit for the job.

He further lashed out at the police for naming the deceased Jaleel and Nausheen as accused in an FIR.

On claims made by the police that people from Kerala were responsible for the violence, Kumaraswamy wondered why not even one Keralite was injured in the violence that rocked the city. He even voiced suspicion that RSS activists may have dressed as police personnel and barged into the Highland hospital here.

Regarding his visit to the region, Kumaraswamy said that he wanted to assess the situation here himself. He asked why the delegation of Congress leaders were detained when they visited the city.

On allegations against Khader for inciting violence Kumaraswamy asked remarked that no case was registered against Yediyurappa, Nalin Kumar Kateel and Shobha Karandlaje when they threatened to set fire to the state if Kalladka Bhat was arrested.
