In the backdrop of Parameshwara’s comments, few media reports sought to cast doubts on the coalition partners. However, they were left disappointed as Chief Minister Kumaraswamy apart from Congress strongman DK Shivakumar rushed to the defence of Parameshwara.
Speaking to presspersons in Belagavi Parameshwar said that coalition government will definitely complete the five-year tenure but later made a surprising comment that he is ready to become the chief minister if the Congress high command so desires. He also mentioned that the much-awaited Cabinet expansion will take place in the last week of November and Belagavi could get another ministerial berth in the government.
While his comments led to a furore the same was downplayed by senior leaders of the coalition government.

Defending Parameshwara’s statement Kumaraswamy said, “There is nothing wrong in what Parameshwara said, everyone has their own aim. CM’s post does not stay permanently with one person, many people have become CM previously. Presently, I am the CM, after 5 years someone else will become a CM that can be Parameshwara as well.
Minister D K Shivakumar’s reaction:
Minister of irrigation D K Shivakumar, defending Parameshwar statement told that everyone wishes to be the CM and so does Parameshwara and there is nothing wrong in it. He further added that for the next five years Kumaraswamy will be the CM and the coalition government will run successfully.
Siddarammaiah’s reaction:
Reacting to Parameshwara’s statement former CM Siddarammaiah said that several seniors and strong leaders the Congress are in the race for the CM’s post in and Parameshwara is one amongst them.
