Heavy rains lash coastal Karnataka

Bengaluru: Heavy rains lashed coastal districts of Dakshin Kannada, Uttara Kannada, Udupi along with south Interior districts of Chickmagalur and Kodagu.

The heavy downpour caused the rivers to overflow creating flood like situation in villages and towns in the region.

The district administration in the rain affected areas has set up helplines and rehabilitation camps. Schools and Colleges remained closed today in Dakshin Kannada district. 

AIR Correspondent reports, the met department in Karnataka has issued warning that rains will lash several districts neighbouring Kerala for the next three days. 

Several roads connecting Kerala have submerged in water resulting in disruption of vehicle movement.

Cauvery river which is at spate has filled Kabini dam to the brim and 80 thousand cusecs water is released from the dam.

Heavy rains are likely to continue for few more days in the region, the IMD said.

Additional Director General of India Meteorological Department (IMD) Mritunjay Mohapatra said there is a low pressure over the Bay of Bengal which will make the monsoon current more active.

The IMD said rainfall activity over Kerala, Karnataka and the ghats of Tamil Nadu is likely to increase in intensity again, in addition to a fresh surge of monsoon westerlies.

South Konkan region and Goa is also likely to receive isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall, the IMD said.
