Heavy rains: Trekking temporarily banned at Gadaikallu

Belthangady: Trekking to the historical tourist destination of Gadaikallu has been temporarily banned due to the incessant rains.

Excessive rains have caused the water to flow on the rock face, leading to the growth of moss on the steps. As the stone steps are slippery, Belthangady Zonal Forest Officer Swati said that tourists’ entry has been prohibited from July 7 until further orders.

Gadaikallu, also known as Narasimha Garh or Jamalabad Fort, situated close to Dharamasthala, is a part of the Kuduremukh mountain range.

The fort on top of the massive granitic rock is accessible through a narrow path, cut into the rock face. The location about 1288 feet from sea level is also a trekking destination with ‘medium difficulty level’ climb.

The historic location is about 8 km from Belthagady town and about 60 km from Mangaluru.
