Helmet compulsory for pillion rider: SP

Udupi: According to sec 129 of the Central Motor Vehicle Act of 1989, a pillion rider on a two-wheeler must compulsorily wear a helmet. Violation of the rule will attract legal action, warned SP Nisha James.

Other than two-wheeler and three-wheeler vehicles, the driver and the front passenger of all light motor vehicles must compulsorily wear seat belts, informed the SP in a release.

Passenger transport: notification

For no reason should labourers or passengers be transported in a goods vehicle. The number of school students being transported in auto-rickshaws, vans or school vehicles must not cross the permitted limit. On violation of the rule, the license of the errant driver will be seized in accordance to Supreme Court’s direction and the Transport Authority will be advised to cancel the license for 3 months or more.

Parents too must not transport more than permitted number of children to the school in their vehicles, informed the SP in the release.
