High Court Stalls Order for Re-investigation on Sowjanya Rape-Murder Case

Belthangady: Karnataka high court has stalled an order by CBI special court for a re-investigation on Sowjanya rape-murder case on Tuesday. The court has adjourned its hearing for another day. Earlier, the special court had ordered for a re-investigation on the case following a petition by the father of the victim Chandrappa Gowda. He stated that there are mistakes in the charge sheet filed by CBI. Following the petition, the special court had ordered for a reinvestigation on the case.

Following the order from special court, a petition was filed by Dheeraj Jain, Uday Jain and Malik Jain who are named as eye-witnesses in the charge sheet filed by CBI in the case questioned the decision for a re investigation even if charge sheet was already filed.

Hearing the petition, Justice Anand Byrareddy stalled the order for further probe in the case. Earlier, CBI had filed a charge sheet stating Santosh Rao as the key suspect whereas Dheeraj Jain, Uday Jain and Malik Jain as eyewitnesses of the incident.

Sowjanya was a 17-year-old student of SDM College PU, Ujire was raped and murdered on her way back home on October 9, 2012.
