According to the legend, Sri Vadiraja Swamyas brought the idols of Muhkyaprana and Garuda four hundred centuries ago to Udupi Shri Krishna Math.
It is said that in 1538-39, the Vadiraja traveled to the Vijayanagara Empire. In 1541-42, he embarked on an expedition to North India and later went to Ayodhya and after excavation he brought the idol of Hanuma-Garuda in 1545.
A few sources claim that, In treta Yuga, During Lord Ram’s Pattabhishekam in Dasharatha’s Palace, Hanuman idol was placed on the right and Garuda’s idol was placed on the left. Vadiraja was aware of this and that is why he went and excavated the idols.
