Home Minister Dr Parameshwara makes u-turn; says remark was misinterpreted

Bengaluru: After facing flak for his comments on women following the Bengaluru mass molestation incident, Karnataka Home Minister Dr G Parameshwara on Thursday clarified his statement saying that his quote regarding the incident was interpreted out of context.

The Minister had allegedly said that ‘western ways’ were responsible for such incidents.

Meanwhile, National Commission for Women Chairperson Lalitha Kumaramangalam issued a notice to the Minister and said that he had to resign for making such objectionable remarks against women. She said that he had to apologize and resign.

Dr Parameshwara on Thursday also said that the streets in Bengaluru would be made safer for women. He informed that more CCTV’s would be installed and helplines would also be increased.
