House burgled in broad daylight; Jewellery worth lakhs of rupees stolen

Bantwal: A house belonging to Lohith N, a surveyor by profession, located near Bhadrakali Katte, Kasbah village near S V S school in the town was burgled in broad daylight on Tuesday September 10. The thieves made off gold and silver jewellery worth Rs 7.75 lakh and Rs 7,500 cash, kept inside the Godrej steel almirah in the house.

Apparently, the theft occurred when Lohith’s wife Veena, was away from the house briefly to buy household things at around 12 pm on Tuesday.

Incident synopsis

The thieves gained access into the house by removing the cement sheet forming roof of the adjoining toilet and pocketed assets worth Rs 7.83 lakh. According to the complaint lodged in the town police station, 224 grams of gold ornaments, 1,150 grams of silver valuables and Rs 7,500 in cash was stolen.

Veena had locked the Godrej almirah and left its keys nearby, before leaving the house only making the task of the robbers easy.

The crime location was visited by ASP Saidul Adavat, Bantwal police circle inspector, T D Nagaraj, Bantwal town anti crime squad SI Sudhaker Thonse, town station SI Chandrashekar, probationary SI Kumar and Nagesh, ASI Sanjeev, HC Suresh Padar, Udaya Rai, Lokesh, staff Srikanth, Dhanyashree and Vivek. The registered case is being investigated from various angles.

Special police team

A special police team has been formed by the ASP to probe the case and nab the culprits informed the DySP. Meanwhile, the canine squad and forensic experts have also visited the location.
