I am not new to politics: IAS officer D K Ravi's wife Kusuma

Bengaluru: Congress candidate for the November 3 by-polls in Rajarajeshwari Nagar assembly Kusuma said that she is grateful to Congress party for letting her contest the bypolls.

Addressing presspersons after meeting former chief minister Siddaramaiah, Kusuma said I came to meet Siddaramaiah and thank him for giving me an opportunity to contest the bypolls.

“I am not new to politics and I’m aware the hardships a politician should face. My father is a politician and I have seen him work so I am sure I can handle the duties very well,” she said.

Kusuma further added, “Educated women should get into politics. So that they can be the voice for those the women who are being abused and harassed.”

“I never planned on joining politics but when I got an opportunity I did not want to miss it. I don’t worry much about my opponents’ plan, I will do my duty without any mistakes,” She said.

Kusuma (31), who holds an MS degree in Information Technology from the University of Massachusetts, Boston, is currently an assistant professor of computer science engineering at Dayananda Sagar College of Engineering.

She is the wife of IAS officer D K Ravi, who died in March 2015. Her father Hanumantharayappa was earlier with the Congress before jumping ship to JD(S). He had unsuccessfully contested the 2008 assembly polls from RR Nagar on the regional party’s ticket.
