The identity of the deceased woman has not been established.
According to the complaint filed at the Sullia Police Station by the bar owner Santhosh, Imran Sheikh of West Bengal origin, who worked as a helper at a bar and restaurant, had rented the house. He reportedly lived with his wife whom he brought along about a fortnight after joining work at the bar.
It is said that Imran’s wife was disabled and walked with the help of crutches.

On November 21, Keerthan, a coworker of Imran usually dropped him off after work, told Santhosh that a neighbour had informed him about hearing the cries of a woman from Imran’s rented house at around 7.30 PM the previous day. the neighbour also said that Imran had left the house alone on the night of November 20 with a bag in tow. His wife was nowhere to be seen, the complaint said.
The murder came to light on November 22, when police broke into the house after Santhosh reported the matter. The body of the woman was found in the rented house stuffed into a gunny bag.
Meanwhile, the body has been kept at a mortuary of a hospital in Mangaluru. The suspect still remains at large.
