If reports are to be believed the institute has replaced ceiling fans with wall-mounted fans and has also issued a circular asking students not to loiter in the balcony and terrace areas.
It is gathered that four instances of student suicides were reported in the institute this year as compared to two cases in the previous year.
Meanwhile, students have been critical of the management’s approach to handle the problem. As many as 88 students opined that removing ceiling fans would not prevent suicides. At least 90 students voiced that they prefer ceiling fan over wall-mounted ones and alleged that though the college has a wellness centre, the facility is not being utilised for students’ well-being.
