In unique photoshoot Kirik actress creates awareness on water pollution

Bengaluru:  Actress Rashmika Mandanna did a unique underwater photoshoot to raise awareness about water pollution in lakes in and around Bengaluru and these photos of Rashmika went viral on social media platform within no time. 

In this photo which was released by the actress on Thursday, December 13, Rashmika is under water, her eyes closed, sunlight streaming in and all around her are plastic bags, floating around in the water body. This photograph of Rashmika Mandanna has caught the attention of people.

However, Rashmika did not actually enter the lake for the photos as that posed quite a health risk. The underwater photos were taken at a friend’s pool, while the other photos were shot on the banks of Bellandur lake.

“It all started when a senior from school spoke to me about this project. She told me this is not a paid thing, but since this was to raise awareness about pollution, I was interested. It was the first time I had gone to that part of the city and as soon as I saw the crowd of people living there, I was heartbroken. I did not feel like leaving my car and I thought, how could people breathe this air. There was so much foam and it was flying around everywhere”  Rashmika said speaking with The New Minute.

Bellandur lake, once a lively water body, has recently has been in news for all the wrong reasons. The NGT  had recently imposed Rs 50 crore penalty on state government and Rs 25 crore to BBMP for their failure to restore Bellandur and Varthur lakes in the city’s southeast suburb. Is also asked the government to set aside Rs 500 crore for the rejuvenation of the lake.
