New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi had left people curious early today with his tweet about him addressing the nation with an “important message”

Ahead of the first phase of the Lok Sabha elections on 11 April, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi revealed that country’s scientists shot down a low orbit satellite 300 km away in space.

Addressing the nation, Modi said that India has established itself as the fourth country after USA, Russia and China in space technology by being able to shoot down a Low Earth Orbit satellite.

“India has entered the super league of space powers by doing this,” the Prime Minister said in his public address to the nation and told it is a matter and great pride for the citizens of India to achieve this feat.

He congratulated the Defence Research and Development Organisation and other scientists for achieving this feat. “Mission Shakti was a highly complex one, conducted at extremely high speed with remarkable precision. It shows the remarkable dexterity of India’s outstanding scientists and the success of our space programme,” he said on Twitter.

The operation was called Space Mission Shakti and was carried our successfully under 3 minutes.
