India reports first confirmed case of Coronavirus in Kerala

New Delhi: India on Thursday has reported its first confirmed case of novel coronavirus(nCoV) in Kerala.

The patient is a student studying at Wuhan University, China who travelled to India, has been tested positive for the virus.

In a statement, the Press Information Bureau (PIB) of India said the student is from Kerala. “The patient has tested positive for novel coronavirus and is in isolation in the hospital. The patient is stable and is being closely monitored,” the statement said.

In Kerala, one person each from Thrissur, Thiruvananthapuram, Pathanamthitta and Malappuram and three from Ernakulam district have been kept in isolation wards of various helath centres, news agency PTI reported.

Coronavirus death toll in China climbed to 170 on Thursday, a sharp jump from the 132 on Wednesday, according to information on a real-time tracking portal being maintained by John Hopkins University. As of Thursday, confirmed cases numbered 7,783 across the world, with as many as 7,678 in mainland China.
