India’s First 3D Planetarium in Mangaluru to be Opened for Public in October, 2017: JR Lobo

Mangaluru: Construction works of India’s first three dimension (3D) planetarium in Mangaluru city will be completed soon and the planetarium will be opened for public from October, 2017, said MLA JR Lobo speaking in a press conference in the city on Monday.

The planetarium is named after Swami Vivekananda commemorating his 150th birth anniversary celebrated in the year 2013. The new facility is being built at a cost of Rs 35.60 crore and latest technology, facilities have been utilised for the construction of the planetarium, MLA said answering to a question. Swami Vivekananda 3D Planetarium is being constructed at Dr Shivaram Karanth Biological Park in Pilikula featuring facilities which meet international standards.

“Mangaluru is the first city in the country to install such facility as far as  its technical specifications are concerned. The 3D planetarium is unique in terms of its technical specifications. The new Pilikula Planetarium will be unidirectional with a dome diameter of 18 meters,” MLA said.
