Global Tiger Day, also called the International Tiger Day, is an annual event marked to raise awareness for tiger conservation and it and came into existence in 2010 in Russia during the signing of Saint Petersburg declaration by 13 tiger range countries.
The tiger population across the world had dropped sharply since the beginning of the 20th century but now for the first time in conservation history, their numbers are on the rise and India now accounts 70 percent of the world’s total population of tigers, the environment ministry said on Tuesday while releasing its fourth detailed national tiger estimation report.
Today on the Global Tiger Day political leaders across the party line and celebrities took to twitter to spread greater awareness on the importance of protecting tigers using hashtag #IndiasTigerSuccess
