#IndiasTigerSuccess trends on Twitter on Global Tiger Day

Tiger, the National Animal of India is one of the most iconic animals on Earth and July 29 is observed as Global Tiger Day across the world every year in order to raise awareness about the declining population of the tigers and to save them from going extinct.

Global Tiger Day, also called the International Tiger Day, is an annual event marked to raise awareness for tiger conservation and it and came into existence in 2010 in Russia during the signing of Saint Petersburg declaration by 13 tiger range countries.

The tiger population across the world had dropped sharply since the beginning of the 20th century but now for the first time in conservation history, their numbers are on the rise and India now accounts 70 percent of the world’s total population of tigers, the environment ministry said on Tuesday while releasing its fourth detailed national tiger estimation report.

A year after a tiger estimation was done, a detailed report released on Tuesday, July 28 has shown that the Corbett Tiger Reserve in Uttarakhand has the highest number of 231 big cats in the country while three reserves in Mizoram, West Bengal, and Jharkhand have none.

The over 600-page report of the fourth All India Tiger Estimation 2018 was released by Union Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar on the eve of Global Tiger Day, celebrated on July 29 every year, shows reserve-wise and state-wise tiger population distribution.
